Q

VISITOR CAUTION - HIGH WATER LEVELS

River users take extra care

• Water visibility is reduced due to suspended matter.
• Floating debris may be fast moving and hazardous.
• Entry and exit points will be slippery and sometimes completely inaccessible.
• Trees and river debris can cause extremely hazardous strainers.
• Swimming to recover swamped craft can be difficult, long and cold.
• Colder water temperatures increase the possibility of cold related injuries.
• High water levels create powerful and sometimes unnoticed currents.
• Bobs Crossing produces extremely hazardous ‘holes’ or hydraulic waves that can hold and recirculate craft. Always portage around the Crossing.
• Some road sections are narrow and steep banked with the location of fast-moving water close to the road.
• Low river level crossing points are gated and locked at high river levels. Never try to walk across crossings that have water flowing over them.
• Avoid slippery banks close to fast moving water.

Ensure you have the appropriate experience required and shore-based persons are aware of your location and plans.
