Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to frequently asked questions about working with us.

  • How far is the river from where we collect the watercraft?

The Murray River is about 10 minutes’ drive from our town location. For bookings from town, watercraft can be carried on a car roof (we can supply foam blocks and tie-down straps), towed on one of our trailers, or we may be able to deliver. Most vehicles can carry 1 canoe comfortably on the roof. Canoes and kayaks require a 2 person lift. Hiring a raft is a great option if you are 1 adult with young children.

Watercraft can also be hired at our kiosk location in Lane Poole Reserve, right on the water (Opening 2026). We do not take bookings for kiosk hires. This is a first-come, first-served basis. Rates and hire times vary at the kiosk.

  • Can we have equipment delivered?

Yes, we do offer a delivery service. Please make a note on your booking if you require a different pick-up location to the delivery location, and our staff will coordinate with you. Our advertised fee includes pick up. Please note you must attend our premises in Dwellingup town to complete paperwork, before we can deliver equipment.

  • Can I carry canoes/rafts/kayaks on my car without a roof rack?

Generally, most vehicles without a roof rack can carry 1 canoe/raft/kayak. We have thick, foam pads that sit on your roof and supply tie downs that wrap through your door frame. Carrying or towing our hire equipment is at the hirers risk.

  • What happens if I lose or damage equipment?

If you lose equipment there will be a replacement cost. Generally, if damage occurs under your care you will be charged for the damage.

  • Do you supply life jackets?

Yes, personal floatation devices (pfds) and paddles are supplied with each craft according to the number of persons the equipment is licensed to carry. We have a range of pfd sizes from infant to extra large adults.

  • Are dogs permitted in the watercraft?

Yes, but canoes only. The rafts and SUP boards are inflatable and not suitable to carry dogs. Note; we do not supply specific animal pfds.

  • What ages are suitable for watercraft hire?

Generally, our watercraft hire is suitable for all ages, provided children are accompanied by a responsible adult and wear the correct size PFD, which we supply. Specific age recommendations for our tours can be found on their individual product pages.

  • Do I need prior experience to hire watercraft?

For basic watercraft hire on the Murray River’s calmer sections, prior experience isn’t usually required. We’ll provide paddles and PFDs. For those tackling faster sections in higher water, or longer trips, some confidence and basic paddling ability will make for a more enjoyable experience. Our guided tours are perfect for beginners!

  • What are the river conditions like, and do they affect hire?

The Murray River’s water levels are dependent on natural rainfall. During periods of very low water (typically late November to March), some sections may become very shallow and require wading or pulling your watercraft. During very high water, we have safety cut-off points. We will always advise you if conditions are unsuitable for your planned hire or tour.

  • Do you supply roof racks for hire?

While we don’t hire full roof racks, we can supply complimentary foam blocks and straps that allow most vehicles to comfortably carry one boat on the roof. This makes transporting your hired watercraft much easier!

  • Are Lane Poole Reserve entry fees included in the cost?

No, Lane Poole Reserve day entry fees are not included in any of our tour or equipment hire costs. You will need to pay these fees upon entry to the Reserve. For current fee information, please visit the Department of Parks and Wildlife Service (DPAW) website.

  • Are day hires for 24 hours?

No, day hires are from 8am to 4pm (open to close), or from 4pm Day 1 to 4pm the next day.
