5 Tips for First-Time Trail Riders
- Focus on the Easy Trails
Keep an eye out for green-rated trails! These are the best for beginners. They’re designed with gentle slopes, wider paths and minimal technical features, so you can cruise comfortably while building your confidence.
Some great green trails to try in Dwellingup:
- Quollity Street (1.4 km): A scenic cross-country loop with river valley views.
- Bullish (0.83 km): A short, smooth downhill ride from the South Trailhead.
- Year 1 (2.3 km): A descending flow trail with wide rollers and berms that’s fun and fast, but still beginner friendly.
- Shingleback (2.9km): A fun and cruisy trail that links with the Munda Biddi for an easy 6km loop.
- Rock on (2.1km): A cross-country trail with a rocky climb that rewards riders with a rolling, flowy descent
- Yarri Up (2.3km): A cross-country climbing trail that connects to descending trails providing an easy alternative to shuttling

- Stay Loose & Ride Smooth
The best riders know how to flow. Keep your arms, shoulders and knees relaxed. Especially on descents or bumpy terrain. Staying loose helps you stay balanced and lets your bike move naturally underneath you.
You’ll feel the difference once you start gliding over bumps instead of battling them.
- Look Where You Want to Go
It sounds obvious, but it’s game-changing: your body follows your eyes.
- Approaching a berm? Look to the exit.
- Rolling into a drop? Focus on the landing.
By directing your gaze, you naturally shift your weight and guide your bike more smoothly through turns, drops and transitions.
- And Lastly… Don’t Forget to Have Fun!
This isn’t a race (unless you want it to be). Take in the views, breathe in that fresh forest air, stop for a photo or a snack and enjoy the ride.
Trail riding is all about exploring, experiencing and enjoying the outdoors. No pressure, just good vibes!
